As we have seen, the definition of 'technology' is a bit of a problem in that it seems to depend a bit on when you were born. That said, for most tutors, computers and the web still seem to have a technology edge to them and still have a 'newness' edge over books for students. These areas (computers and the web) will be the focus here (though your students' attitudes toward computers may be a lot like your attitude to airplanes compared to your parents' attitudes). In any case, you might want to use computers and the web because:
| Although many of these same resources exist on paper, the computer can help leverage your time by finding things more quickly.
| Although many of these activities can be accomplished without a computer, the computer may help to tune the content to the precise needs of the particular child.
| You can help teach the child how to find information independently using these resources.
| You can help teach the child how to make thoughtful decisions about the quality of the information available and how trustworthy it might be.
