Search engines can help you find things if you know how to use them. The Net Links point to a few you might try typing 'reading tutoring' in the search box for the following:
| Google. Google is one of my favorites. I like the 'cached' link that is returned for each item. This link avoids some of the world wide cobweb problems since it shows you the actual page that the retrieval was based on (even though the current page may have changed or disappeared). The search words in your query are also color coded so that you can find them in the text. It has a tab so that you can search for images as well as strings of words. There is also a link for 'similar pages' which is useful if there may be more than one meaning for the words you have typed, or just to help narrow the search. See the Step by Step for more information.

| Yahoo currently uses the Google search engine, but might be convenient if you're already at the Yahoo portal.
|
| AltaVista is also a good search engine. The sponsored links take up about the whole first screen, so scroll down to see the 'real' results. No cache of the actual pages is provided (so you can get odd links and it might be hard to figure out why a page was returned). But it does provide a 'related pages' link for each result as well as tabs for searching for images, audio and video.

| Ask Jeeves lets you type in the key words for your search, but it also allows you type in an actual question, such as "How do I learn how to tutor reading?" You can also type questions into the other search engines (though many of them through out the non-content words), and in my experience, Ask Jeeves might as well throw them out (I haven't had very good luck finding things with it).

| If the 228,458 results from Alta Vista or the 753,000 results from Google for 'reading tutoring' is not enough for you... you can try Dogpile. Dogpile compiles results from many search engines, including all of those listed here and more. It also provides an outline of topics at the left to help you narrow your search.
